2. OLDE ENGLISH 'D': The Tigers first wore their iconic logo on their 1904 road uniforms and unveiled it at home the following season. It's the oldest American League symbol still in use and predates another well-known Detroit logo - the Ford oval - by 24 years. These days, the Tigers wear a white "D" on their home game caps; it appears in orange on the road caps.
3. NICKNAME: There are various stories of how the Tigers got their nickname. George Stallings, the manager when the team became a charter member of the AL in 1901, always claimed he named the team after deciding to have the players wear orange-striped socks.
