To the end, Dmitri Young was popular in the Tigers clubhouse. That might come as a surprise.

Young was released Wednesday, amid concerns about his declining performance and detached clubhouse demeanor.

Rookie Joel Zumaya, though, considers Young his big brother. Marcus Thames has expressed heartfelt gratitude for the way Young spoke out in support of him last year. And Sean Casey describes Young -- or "Train," as he affectionately calls him -- as one of his all-time favorite teammates.

They, and others, wanted Young to succeed, perhaps more than ever, following his two-month absence to seek substance-abuse treatment.
