One of their home runs floated, but the Tigers' hopes nearly sank Sunday.

Their hopes of getting out of here with another victory, that is.

On All-Star selection day, one on which they had two players -- Pudge Rodriguez and Kenny Rogers -- voted onto the American League team, the Tigers ushered in the second half of the season with a strange game, indeed.

They beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 9-8, so it wasn't bottom-line strange. With their 56-26 record, it's never bottom-line strange anymore when the Tigers win. After all, they trail only the 1911 Tigers for the best 82-game record in franchise history.

It's just how they did it this time.

im suprise that that no one else from the tigers were selected...wait nevermind..i can understand why...the al team is all red soxs and yankees... also not ragging on pudge b/c personally i like him but he should not be the starter for the all star team...joe mauer should be...

i mean i like the guy and he is an amazing catcher...this is his 13th all star selection so he really does deserve it...but are you really going to start him over mauer? mauer is batting .393....
