Paul Byrd-S- Indians
Paul Byrd attributed his mildly successful start on Wednesday night -- three earned runs over six innings -- to a new windup that he developed with pitching coach Carl Willis.
''I went down to the bullpen (between starts),'' Byrd said. ''Carl made a few changes. Now, I'm not putting my hands over my head. I think that helped me keep the ball down.'' He says the new motion gives him more command. Hopefully it will help him to a better second half, as he heads to the All-Star break with a 3-10 record and a 5.47 ERA.
