Indians in talks with Showalter
Quote:
CLEVELAND -- Buck Showalter, fired as manager of the Texas Rangers after last season, could soon join the Cleveland Indians as an adviser to general manager Mark Shapiro.
"This is something we hope presents him with an attractive option as he considers his next step," Shapiro said. "We know we could benefit from his unique experiences and baseball intellect."
Shapiro has hired former big-league managers Terry Francona and Mike Hargrove in recent years to fill a similar role to the one offered Showalter.
The 50-year-old Showalter was the AL's manager of the year two years ago. But the Rangers never finished higher than third under him. The Yankees and Diamondbacks both won the World Series the year after Showalter left those teams.

Showalter is smart, but how will he do in the front office? Has he ever had a say in player moves as a coach?
