It took the Detroit Tigers only three years to crawl from the wreckage of a 119-loss season and play in a World Series. But as the White Sox discovered, there's no foolproof formula for getting back there.

So even as Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski takes a bow for engineering one of the greatest reclamation projects in recent history, he knows it can all quickly disappear.
