Default Red Sox ponder Farrell; will Braves trade Giles?

John Farrell, who just finished his fifth season as the Indians' director of player development, is close to being named pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox. An announcement is expected early this week.

GM Mark Shapiro confirmed that Farrell has interviewed for the job, but said "If an announcement is going to be made, it won't come from here."

Farrell's exit would represent a loss for the Indians. The farm system - on display much of this year as the Indians played 17 rookies - is the organization's pride and joy.
