General Manager Mark Shapiro announced his winter wish list for the Indians on Tuesday along with a cautionary addendum:

``We must improve our bullpen and infield defense,'' he said.

This is not news. Any fan who follows the Tribe already knows that much of the reason for the club's disappointing season was the inconsistent and often maddeningly vulnerable relief corps and the porous defense.

I wondered why at the time and even moreso now--why did the Indians deal Ronnie Belliard?

The man can play and though his numbers were down for the first half this season he's picked it up with St. Louis and has been a shining star this October. At the very least he's made himself some nice coin with his play the past couple months.
