CLEVELAND - Cliff Lee's decision to go for a big score in arbitration or take the Indians'multiyear deal came down to limiting his risk.
``That's when a player starts to get what he's worth,'' Lee said of the arbitration process. ``I considered it, but the security of a three-year deal is nice to have. If I turned down something like that and got in a car accident tomorrow, I'd be kicking myself.''
So there will be no self-inflicted wounds on Lee, who agreed to the deal, which was announced Tuesday.
The contract is worth $14 million in guaranteed money, plus an $8 million club option for 2010 and the possibility of another $1 million in incentive and awards bonuses.
