Indians General Man ager Mark Shapiro has been criticized for the team's underachieving season, but give the GM credit for not sugarcoating the challenge he faces this winter.
When asked if an extensive overhaul needed to be done on the team this off-season, Shapiro replied by e-mail, "It is surely not just minor tinkering. I think it is best to say that we need to make some significant changes. . . . Most importantly, we need to improve our pitching all the way around, both from changes in personnel and development of [our] existing pitchers."
Shapiro's words sound like "serious overhaul" to us, and that's a promising sign. The reality is, the Indians need to be "tore up from the floor up" - as the saying goes.
