Red's re-sign Weathers
Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - According to a published report, the Cincinnati Reds have re-signed pitcher David Weathers to a two-year $5 million deal.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reported on its Web site, citing the reliever who is at his home in Tennessee, that the right-hander turned down more money from other teams to stay with the Reds and have a chance to close games. The deal is pending a physical.
"The last two years of my career I want to be someplace with a chance to (be a closer)," Weathers said to the paper. "That the convenience of being close to home outweighed the money. I left some money on the table."
Weathers was 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA and 12 saves in 19 chances over 67 games last season. He has 27 saves in 38 opportunities in the last two seasons with the Reds, posting an 11-8 record.
