White Sox Extend Gavin Floyd
Daily Herald.
Quote:
There was a major announcement though _ the White Sox and starting pitcher Gavin Floyd agreed to a four-year, $15.5 million contract extension.
Floyd, 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA last season, gets $750,000 this season, $2.75 million in 2010, $5 million in 2011 and $7 million in 2012.
The Sox hold a $9.5 million club option on Floyd, 26, for 2013.
The White Sox offered a similar deal to another good young starter, John Danks, and were turned down.
Left fielder Carlos Quentin also took a pass.
“No harm, no foul,” GM Kenny Williams said.

This move avoids arbitration, but I'm not sure that I'm a big fan of this type of deal for a pitcher with one good season. Floyd has talent, but he's not a sure thing - this extension would indicate otherwise.
