Colon set to rejoin White Sox
Right-hander reportedly reaches one-year deal with South Siders

CHICAGO -- In 2003, the White Sox brought veteran hurler Esteban Loaiza to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.
The hope was that the right-hander could compete for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. The pleasantly surprising result was that Loaiza emerged as the American League starter for the All-Star Game played at U.S. Cellular Field and finished second in the Cy Young balloting with 21 victories and a 2.90 ERA.
Bartolo Colon also was part of that 2003 staff, standing as the perceived No. 1 hurler after an offseason trade brought him to Chicago. Six years later, Colon is returning to the White Sox, and if he comes close to the numbers put up by Loaiza in 2003, then general manager Ken Williams might have found another diamond in the rough amid the long run of successful White Sox reclamation projects.
A Major League source confirmed to MLB.com on Wednesday night that the White Sox and Colon had agreed on a one-year deal. The story was reported first by FOXSports.com. The team would not confirm the reports, with the signing still pending a physical.
