Clock ticking for Cubs to land Peavy?
Quote:
Last week, Jake Peavy rejected a trade to the White Sox, and his agent, Barry Axelrod, told the Daily Herald's Barry Rozner, "Right now, San Diego is a better place, at this moment, than the South Side of Chicago."
But Axelrod said it's not the city -- it's the league. Peavy prefers the NL.
That means... the Cubs.
Rozner writes that he will waive his no-trade for the Cubs or Dodgers, but the Dodgers aren't exactly the top trading partner for the Padres because they are in the same division. In addition, he writes that the Cubs have been Peavy's top choice all along. That said, the Cubs have to move quickly.
"You have to think that if the Padres can't move Peavy's contract very soon, perhaps within a week or two, they'll begin offloading salaries, and at that point they might as well keep Peavy," Rozner writes.
