HOUSTON — First baseman Derrek Lee began the “baseball” portion of his latest rehab Monday, when he took 20 swings from a tee.
“It went good, 20 swings and nice and easy today,” Lee said. “It felt good. Tomorrow I’ll probably do the same thing: 20 swings.”
Lee has been on the disabled list since July 24 with “post-traumatic” inflammation of the right wrist. He missed two months after breaking two bones near the wrist April 19.
The Cubs will not rush Lee back. He will progress from hitting baseballs off a tee to hitting “soft-toss” pitches before moving on to regular batting practice. Lee also may do a “little throwing” today.
