In the speculation swirling around which Cubs might get dealt before the trade deadline, the name of future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux is sometimes included.
At the rate things are going, however, the question might not be if the Cubs will trade the 325-game winner, but will a contender really want Maddux in its rotation?
Maddux’s struggles continued Friday in a 6-3 loss to the New York Mets. He allowed 8 hits and 6 runs (5 earned) in 7 innings to fall to 7-10.
It was the fifth straight loss for Maddux, who talked after the game about the rumors.
“Who knows what’s really going on? I learned a long time ago not to believe what you read in the paper,” Maddux said. “When it happens, it happens.
“I love playing in Chicago, no question but I understand there’s choices that have to be made. The city and the organization have been great to me. Whatever happens, happens. Either way, I’m good with it.”
