Lowell On DL; Cora Hurts Elbow

"Mike Lowell landed on the 15-day disabled list prior to last night’s 12-6 win against the Tigers at Fenway Park with a sprained left thumb, but Alex Cora is hopeful he won’t have to join him. Lowell, who sprained the thumb making a backhanded, diving stop of Ivan Rodriguez’ game-opening grounder Wednesday, arrived at Fenway swollen and sore, but wasn’t placed on the DL until the severity of the injury was determined by an MRI at Massachusetts General Hospital.
