Johan may land in Boston
hmm, lets see...we got Jacoby Ellsbury, Coco, Lester, and 2 Minor League prospects, that could be traded for Johan Santana...
What do u think?
Do we let go of the future (possible) clutch hero for the Bosox? *cough*Ellsbury*cough*
OR?
Do we get possibly the best pitcher in the present time?
Ur opinion?

Frankly, I'm a Yankee fan so you can disregard my opinion if you like , but I would trade for Johan. I think some might be overrating Elsbury, he looked good this season, but I don't think I'd rather have a possibly good future player over a might be hall of famer. But that's just me. Although, the Sox rotation is already the best in baseball, so they probably don't even need Johan. It would be overkill. Like a prize, hanging it over the rest of the league, saying, "Ha, ha, now we can destroy you even more." Who knows, either way Boston can't lose.

from what im hearing .it looks like ellsbury wont be part of the deal.the twins seem to be leaning towards the package of players that includes john lester .the sox and twins have exchanged medical records regarding lester and santana .

If this is true, which it sounds like it is, Boston should definitely trade for Johan. Lester's story is very touching, and he seems to be a very promising pitcher, but if he's the one being traded, over Ellsbury, I'd say make the trade. It's a better deal for the Socks, the only way they shouldn't take it is if the Twins get greedy and start asking for too much in addition to Lester.
This doesn't look good for the Yanks. If Boston acquires Santana, New York needs to get Dan Haren.

How do you not do this deal? It's a no-brainer. A rotation of Beckett, Santana, Dice-K, Schilling, and Buchholz; the top closer in the game in Papelbon; a solid offense at the very least;.... how does that not win you 105 games? At least? Theo and the guys are excellent scouters/drafters, the Sox will find more speedy center fielders in the draft. Acquire Johan Santana now for Ellsbury, Masterson, Lowrie, and whoever and you got a chance to build a dynasty.

Well I already responded to this in another thread, but I will say it again in here.
Everything that I have read on ESPN says that Ellsbury is the guy that the Twins want. Personally I do that deal quickly. I don't understand why teams struggle to give up their best offensive players for great pitching. The Sox gave up Hanley Ramirez, arguably the best offensive SS in the game right now, for Beckett and all Beckett did was win 20 games and be unhittable in the playoffs.
I would much rather keep Lester than Ellsbury.
I would gladly get rid of both to acquire Santana though.

But Hanley Ramirez is a damn good player. I would have much rather included Youkilis in that deal. Even with what's he done the past two seasons.

I don't know. Hanley is a superior SS to Lugo and actually has the best combination of speed and power in the league, but I don't know if I would have given up Youkilis before him.
The reasoning behind that is due to what Youkilis does at the plate. Youk is a walks machine and has a high OBP. He forces pitchers to throw quite a few pitches. That is a strength of the Red Sox that fans often forget. They are patient hitters, work the count, which in turn causes pitchers to wear down or throw mistake pitches. Youk does that better than anyone in the league.
But even with that argument I would have loved to see Hanley as a Red Sock. People have a lovefest over Reyes, but Hanley is Reyes with more power.

And if we still have Hanley, chances are this Santana thing would long since be done, because Theo could give up both Lester and Ellsbury (somewhat) comfortably.

I think it depends on how many championships you want to win between now and 2012 when Beckett and Santana start the mid-30's decline. Santana, Beckett, Dice-K, Buccholz, and any 2 schmucks you can throw in there will win any 5 game series and have a very good chance of a 7 game series too. Not to mention the backing of an offense that can knock 5 runs out at a clip before an out is recorded. I think Ellsbury is the real deal and will be a superstar wherever he ends up. The other 3 I don't know enough about, but you can think short team and win the next 4 of 6 championships (give or take) or you can invest in the future once Manny and Varitek retire, they find a way to dump the waste of money Drew, and need a replacement for Lugo which Ellsbury and Lowrie are projected to do.
Bottom line, I hope the trade never happens because I'm a die-hard Yankees fan and would hate the thought of that happening. :P
