BALTIMORE -- Through an intermediary, David Ortiz let Derek Jeter know yesterday that he had nothing against the Yankees shortstop and his chances to be the next American League MVP.
Ortiz was upset about how his comments after Sunday’s game at Fenway Park created a brushfire when the Yankees media ran the comments by Jeter.
The headlines in New York -- “Papi disses Derek,” New York Post; “Ortiz: Jeter’s No MVP” New York Daily News; “Ortiz: Pick me, not Jeter” Newark Star-Ledger -- created a tone of selfishness that had Ortiz considering a media boycott.
Saying he’s “smarter than that,” Ortiz clarified himself.

i dont understand why they would do this to papi. all he has said is that jeter isent the best choice for MVP, not jeter shouldent be MVP coz he sucks. it hurts david in the end more then derek because it makes him look selfish and greedy which, u guys would all know by now, is the exact opposite

all i know is, if papi doesnt win the mvp then something is wrong....not taking anything away from jeter but i feel like papi deserves it more....

Why because his team tanked? Take Jeter out of the Yankee lineup would they still be in first? Alot of his walkoffs mean nothing when you're not in the playoffs. So how valuable is he really when they got nowhere. If the Sox were still in first I can't argue with Papi getting the MVP but he ain't doing enough obviously because he still ain't in the playoff hunt. I'm sorry but how can you not think Jeter is having an MVP year. He is our leader and without him or Mo the Yanks wouldn'tve won 4 WS.

take papi outta the sox and watch the explosion. just because he plays for ur favourite team does not mean he'll be the MVP. and to be honest i dont like jeter but that doesent mean he wont win the MVP, its just that papi deserves it more.
