Carlos Pena has hit so many walkoff home runs at Fenway Park he can’t even begin to count.
Since moving to the Boston area from the Dominican Republic nearly 16 years ago, nearly every daydream that diverted his attention during classes at Haverhill High and Northeastern University ended with him hitting one out at Fenway to win the game for the Red Sox.
Last night, Pena turned the dreams into a reality.
Pena revived the Sox’ fading playoff hopes with a game-winning homer off Brandon McCarthy into the right field seats leading off the 10th inning for a stunning, 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.
