ANAHEIM, Calif. - He is human, despite our perception of him, and so you cannot help but wonder: How many times is Manny Ramirez left shaking his head? How many runs must he knock in and how many home runs must he hit before we start to see Ramirez as a man who is needlessly banging his head against the wall?
For a time, at least, Ramirez was back in the lineup as the Red Sox took on the Los Angeles Angels last night, and maybe it is time for us to all acknowledge an obvious truth. The Red Sox have much bigger problems than their quirky left fielder. After coming out of Monday’s game against the New York Yankees, Ramirez made just a pinch-hitting appearance in Tuesday’s series opener here before leaving last night’s game in the fourth inning. And that is all it takes for the Sox and their quick-trigger critics to point the barrel at the easiest target in uniform.
