ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Red Sox’ frightening freefall finally slowed last night, when the relievers somehow managed to protect a late lead, resulting in the end to the club’s longest losing streak in nearly five years with a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.
Battling a sore back, Jon Lester survived five tension-filled innings and won for only the second time in seven starts when the bullpen barely made the advantage stand up through the final four perilous frames. Los Angeles cut it to 5-4 against Julian Tavarez in the sixth but Mike Timlin, Keith Foulke and Jonathan Papelbon walked a tightrope over the final three innings to end the six-game losing streak.
