Well, not trying to be racist or anything, but there are a lot of talented athletes that are black, hispanic, etc. Back in the day there probably was talent located in other ethnicities but the game was dominated by whites. If I had to choose, I would pick modern-day players. BUT, the game advanced over time because of players in the past.

Modern players without a doubt.. if you hit .270 now as a player, it'd be like hitting .300+ back in the '40s and '50s and what not..

Now that may seem like a blunt statement, which it is.. but back in the day you had guys drinking beer before games and guys with beer guts during the games. The fastest pitch record in 50's was 80mph, I believe. 80mph is what 13 and 14 year olds are facing today in Travel Ball.

No discredit to the legends that played back then, though, but I highly doubt they could get away with what they did today.

Kelzzy, do you really want to go into this today? Please show me your 'facts" that 80MPH was the fastest in the 40's or 50's. I can prove you wrong in a heartbeat. Bob Fellar was clocked at almost a 100 MPH and he pitched in the 40's and 50's. Koufax also threw really hard and he pitched in the 50's. So don't even give me that.

I wanna see some of these offensive stars of today play in the 60's when the mound was 10 inches higher. In 1968 Carl Yazstremski won at batting title by hitting .301, why? Because the mound was higher, strike zone was bigger, and pitchers were as dominate as ever.

Today's baseball is pure trash compared to what used to be around.

Yes, guys drank beer, but guys do that as well today. You act as if every player was coming to the park drunk or hungover. Newsflash: THAT STILL HAPPENS IN TODAY'S GAME. Boston Red Sox come to mind?

You pick one of the worst teams that could come into mind. The Redsox? Sure they do. Do the Giants, Tigers, or others? Doubt it.

My facts must have been off, I may have been thinking earlier as I did a report a while back on baseball history..

Baseball is complete trash to what it used to be? How? Guys today are in way way better shape, and guys today are much faster, stronger, and are more flexible. That's why players today are worth millions.

Actually Kelzzy, players from the Tigers and Giants do that too. As much as it pains me to do this to my own team look at this article from 2009

Miguel Cabrera apologizes to Detroit Tigers for being drunk - ESPN

For you to sit here on your high horse to act like drinking doesn't happen anymore is completely wrong. And yes, today's game is trash. Players don't play for the love of the game. Most are money hungry douchebag pre-madonna's that will say screw team loyalty and just where-ever the first 100 dollar bill they see.

Baseball back then guys actually loved the game and played it for the right reasons. Sure, players are in the best shape ever, but players back in the day weren't making a league average 3.1 million dollars. League average in 1964 was 2,500 dollars. You have to love the game and work a part time job to feed your family. There was loyalty, and some of the greatest talent to ever step on a baseball field.

Sorry, modern day baseball has nothing on baseball from the 40's,50's, and 60's. Now if you want to talk about pre-30's back, sure, i'll give you that. But from the 40's to the 60's was the best baseball ever played.

I'm on a horse.

But I agree with you on that one. There are more and more players who are just in it for the money, and screw the team over for the extra pay.. but not all of them are like that. Mike Trout? Hell no. Prince Fielder, Brandon Crawford, Albert Pujols, and so many more are in it for the love of the game. And that's what takes teams to the World Series, because the team is a bunch of guys who are in it for eachother and the game, not for the money. *cries because of inspirational speech*

I still disagree that today's game is trash, though. Yes, steroids and other things are leading, but there are still more guys who don't do it then do.

Sure, the games in the 60's were probably wonderful and awesome to watch.. but there are still plenty of games like that around today.
