Not talking about super high averages.

Look at these teams:

Yankees
Rodriguez
Teixeira
Jeter
Swisher

Phillies:
Howard
Utley
Werth
Ibanez
Rollins

Athletics:
Cust
Buck
Giambi
Holliday

Angels:
Hunter
Vlad
Abreu

Mets:
Delgado
Wright
Beltran
Sheffield
Reyes

Marlins:
Uggla
Ramirez
Cantu
Maybin

Cardinals:
Ludwick
Pujols
Ankiel
Glaus

Blue Jays:
Wells
Rios
Snider
Lind

Red Sox:
Ortiz
Bay
Pedroia
Youkilis

Almost evey team has 3 or 4 great players.

Guru:
Easy to see why we differ...you regard good players, average players, one-year-wonders, and unproven kids all as "great".
I do not. A few of the players on your lists are "great",
but most are not....certainly not yet, anyway.
I will not live to see all your supposed "great" players
miss out on the HOF. You will.
Save your list and think about that in 30 years or so.

You'd have to take the legends and the modern pros that you are comparing. See how they did compared to their peers, make the appropriate adjustments in size, pitching, etc. and then judge.

If you are talking about taking the legends exactly as they were, and consider modern training and advancements in everything the legends wouldn't stand a chance. It's an unfair comparion to do it that way.

Legends for one reason: most played in the dead-ball era, when the ball wouldn't be hit very far, so old, old legends were up against the odds.

If you think the old-timers can beat on the guys playing today you are dilusional. Babe Ruth never had to face black players, latinos, asians, hardly ever had to face a relief pitcher, and never had to face a left-handed specialist. The relatively newer generation including Gibson, Mantle, Koufax, would all do fine, but there are 3 just as good for everyone 1 you can name from back then, thanks greatly in part to the globalization of the game.

Fields were the same size, just had different dimensions or were shaped oddly

The old time players could play in the era of today, if your good at baseball it does not matter the time you played.
