Default Girardi turns down offer of Manager

Quote:
SAN DIEGO -- Baltimore's managerial search took an unexpected turn Thursday, when primary candidate Joe Girardi withdrew his name from consideration. Girardi's agent, Steve Mandel, told ESPN early Thursday that his client was no longer interested in the position, and a high-ranking Baltimore official confirmed that report hours later.

Neither Mandel nor Girardi have returned repeated calls for comment, but the Orioles have scheduled a conference call for 5 p.m. ET when executive Andy MacPhail is expected to address the issue. MacPhail, introduced Wednesday as the team's president of baseball operations, was one of the people who reached out to Girardi in the first place.

He turned it down, because he is scheming for the Yankee gig if Joe gets canned. LOL

I don't know if any one wants to be the Orioles manager. I know I sure wouldn't.

We'll see how Trembley works out. I think he needs to do what he's been doing for 20 years. Manage minor league baseball. The O's need to be brought back to basics and learn how to play the game the right way. If Trembley doesn't impress the front office, I hope Dempsey gets the job. He's a true Oriole at heart, loves the team and loves the city of Baltimore. That's a huge part of the reason Davey Johnson did so well back in 96. He was an Oriole and he knew the Oriole way. I even saw a rumor that Davey was also being considered for the job. Cal still needs to buy the team.

You can't really blame Girardi for turning the job down because he knows that at the end of this year the Yankee job is going to open up and its going to be between him and Mattingly for that job so he figured that was worth a shot but on the other side of the spectrum Trembley has turned out to be a good move, the players are happy, he actually does drills with them such as infield practice and bunting practice and baserunning practice and other stuff that has become a lost cause in the majors other than for during spring training. On Monday afternoon the orioles took infield practice which other than spring training was the first time in 7 years that they did
