Huff may be set to join O's
Free agent Aubrey Huff, who hit 21 homers with the Devil Rays and Astros last season, may be close to inking a three-year offer from the Baltimore Orioles, according to various news reports.
The deal, being called a three-year contract worth in the range of $18 million, would put the 30-year-old in a crowded outfield currently featuring offseason signing Jay Payton in left field, Corey Patterson in center and Nick Markakis in right.
The Rangers, Angels and Pirates are also believed to be in the hunt for Huff. The Orioles are thought to be a favorite to sign him. Huff has good career numbers at Camden Yards, the O's home ballpark.
Additionally, Huff is familiar with the division, having spent his whole career before being traded to the Astros last season with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Huff totaled a .267 average with 21 homers and 66 RBIs in 454 at-bats with the Rays and Astros in 2006. He is one of only 10 big leaguers to put up 20 homers and 25 RBIs each of the last five seasons.
