Dale Murphy comes clean / Murphy HOF worthy?
That Dale Murphy has not been hosting any Hall of Fame voting viewing parties says something about both his chances for induction and his humility. In summation: “I realize I’m not knocking on the door, and it’s just not my nature to campaign for it.”
Enshrinement doesn’t drive Murphy’s emotions, unless the subject is another player. If you wonder whether Murphy can still swing, bring up any suspect from baseball’s steroid era. Bring up Barry Bonds.
Bring up Roger Clemens.

Without a doubt he was and still is a class act. It's a shame he's never been voted into the HOF.

I'm all for fan voting... I'd personally vote a million times for him.

I don't know that Dale Murphy deserves enshrinement... with a career line of .265/.346/.469, I'd put him in the 'very good, but not great' category. He was very good for a fairly long time, and he even garnered a couple of NL MVPs - I just don't think 'great' when I hear 'Dale Murphy.'

That's probably because you're not a Braves fan.

No, he wasn't great, but what BB said really is true - To Braves fans, he was GREAT. You have to keep this in mind too - the Braves weren't bad when he was in Atlanta, they were ABSOLUTELY HORRID.
This is when I became a Braves fan. I was young, we just moved the Atlanta, and you could go to Braves games for absolutely nothing, and literally sit anywhere you wanted (generally we sat behind home plate/the dugout 15 or so rows up) because hardly anyone went to the games. You went to the games for 2 reasons. 1) To watch Dale Murphy play. 2) To watch whoever the Braves were playing.
Compared to some of the other guys in the Hall, he really doesn't belong. To Braves fans, they'll always think he belongs because he's the best they saw for so many years.

I started keeping up with the Braves in the mid 80's. The years that every Braves fan longs to forget. Dale Murphy was all we had. He stuck it out with the Braves too. He will always be my favorite Brave. He's not great compared to a lot of today's players but back then he was super human. He'll probably never be voted in because of how bad the Braves were when he played for them. Had it been the other way around he would have been voted in a long time ago.
