The Braves added power to their bench by trading for Washington's Daryle Ward late Thursday, giving up an injured minor league pitching prospect to get the left-handed hitting veteran.
To get Ward, batting .308 with six homers in 104 at-bats, the Braves parted with right-hander Luis Atilano, 21, a former first-round draft choice who had elbow-ligament reconstruction surgery this summer.
Ward, 31, has experience at first base and the outfield, but the Braves plan to use him as a pinch-hit specialist.
