TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Veteran Trot Nixon has worked out for the Arizona Diamondbacks as a possible addition should Chad Tracy not be ready to play when the season opens.
Nixon worked out on a Diamondbacks' practice field on Sunday, then returned home on Monday. If Tracy is healthy, there appear to be no vacancies on the Arizona roster. Tracy, who plays third and first base, is recovering from microfracture knee surgery.
General manager Josh Byrnes said Monday that Nixon's workout was "a confluence of us monitoring our own health, specifically Chad Tracy, and then a player's appetite to take an opportunity if it's kind of narrow."
