D-Backs sign Cruz to 1-year deal
The Diamondbacks and right-hander Juan Cruz agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth a little more than $1.9 million, leaving the team with five players still eligible for arbitration.
Still left unsigned are second baseman Orlando Hudson, relievers Brandon Lyon and Chad Qualls, catcher Chris Snyder and infielder Chris Burke. Friday is the deadline for players and teams to exchange arbitration figures.
Cruz, who will be eligible for free agency after this season, filled an important role in the Diamondbacks' bullpen last season, posting a 3.10 ERA in 61 innings. The club again is expecting to count on his versatility as a reliever this year.
