Cleaning out his locker was the furthest thing from Randy Choate's mind Sunday when he walked into the Diamondbacks clubhouse.
But there the left-handed relief pitcher was, stuffing gear into a duffel bag, folding up shirts and workout apparel and wondering what will happen to him next after having just been informed he had been designated for assignment before Arizona's game with the Houston Astros.
"They told me it wasn't because of how I pitched," Choate said. "They needed some guys who can throw multiple innings and it's a decision they had to make. They felt that was their best choice and that's what they're going to do."
