Spirits should have been high in the Diamondbacks clubhouse on Friday night after a dramatic, walk-off home run by Johnny Estrada capped a day that began with the announcement of a contract extension for manager Bob Melvin.
Instead, the Diamondbacks' 4-3 comeback win was dampened by news of an injury that will land shortstop Craig Counsell on the disabled list for three to six weeks.
Counsell suffered a right rib fracture while swinging through a high fastball from Brewers reliever Matt Wise in the seventh inning. A grimace covering his face, Counsell immediately dropped his bat and reached for his side.
