Though the similarity of the slide appears hauntingly familiar, the present 7-17 stretch ailing the Diamondbacks pales in comparison to the 7-17 freefall that beset the club in June 2004.
That team never had a prayer.
"The way we started off this season, we know we've got a great team," pitcher Brandon Webb said. "I don't know if everybody believed that in 2004. We were... well, we were pretty bad."
