No, he wasn't great, but what BB said really is true - To Braves fans, he was GREAT. You have to keep this in mind too - the Braves weren't bad when he was in Atlanta, they were ABSOLUTELY HORRID.
This is when I became a Braves fan. I was young, we just moved the Atlanta, and you could go to Braves games for absolutely nothing, and literally sit anywhere you wanted (generally we sat behind home plate/the dugout 15 or so rows up) because hardly anyone went to the games. You went to the games for 2 reasons. 1) To watch Dale Murphy play. 2) To watch whoever the Braves were playing.
Compared to some of the other guys in the Hall, he really doesn't belong. To Braves fans, they'll always think he belongs because he's the best they saw for so many years.
