Default 2008 Hot Stove Event to Benefit Cancer Navigators

South Atlantic League

Rome, GA - The Sixth Annual Hot Stove Gathering will be held at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves on Thursday January 31st from 5:30 until 7:30pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cancer Navigators, the Rome Braves announced today.

Cancer Navigators is a Rome-based patient advocacy organization providing access to important resources that touch all levels of the healing experience - body, mind, and spirit. Resources of Cancer Navigators are available to cancer patients, family members, and health care providers who treat cancer patients.

Former Braves player and coach Jim Beauchamp passed away this past December after a long battle with acute myelogenous leukemia. He was 68. Beauchamp was the bench coach for the Atlanta Braves from 1991-1998, a part of the team's World Series Championship in 1995. He most recently served as supervisor of minor league field operations for the organization, spending numerous days at State Mutual Stadium in Rome.

"We are very excited to partner with Cancer Navigators on this event and honor the memory of such an outstanding individual as Jim Beauchamp," says Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn. "He spent many days and nights in Rome and loved being part of baseball here. We will miss him."

Fans can look forward to a night of fun as Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox will be on hand along with special invited guests from the Atlanta organization. The 2008 Rome field staff of Randy Ingle, Bobby Moore, and pitching coach Jim Czajkowski will also be in attendance.

Heavy hor d'oeuvres with food stations and drinks will be located throughout the stadium and the Three Rivers Club. An autograph session in addition to a question and answer program will take place. Door prizes will be given throughout the evening.

Once again this year the Rome Braves will hold a silent auction from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Items have been donated from Major and Minor League teams across the country.

Tickets for the event can be purchased online at Official Home of the Rome Braves at $30 per person or at the Rome Braves ticket office. Get your tickets now as they are going fast.
