RedHawks re-sign Lawson


FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have re-signed RHP Brett Lawson to a contract for the 2008 season, the club announced today. Lawson is the first player signed by Fargo-Moorhead for the upcoming season and will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on May 1.

Lawson, 28, joined the RedHawks for the 2nd half of the 2007 season and was 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 14 games (two starts). He allowed 22 hits and struck out 24 batters in 26.0 innings, but walked 25 batters. He spent the 1st half of the 2007 with the Winnipeg Goldeyes, where he was named to play in the Northern League All-Star Game after going 4-3 with a 4.43 ERA in nine starts.

In his career, Lawson is 19-14 with a 4.19 ERA. He has pitched 269.1 innings and struck out 258 batters. Lawson was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 15th round of the 2001 draft. After spending one year in the Twins system, he took two years off before signing to play in the Northeast League with Quebec in 2004. Lawson spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats, where he was 13-9 with 175 strikeouts in 182.1 innings pitched.
