Donlin Pitching Strong Down Under
SIOUX FALLS, SD (December 6, 2007) - Sioux Falls Canaries reliever Sean Donlin is spending his off-season pitching for the Wembley Magpies of the Western Australian Baseball League. Donlin has made two appearances, and won both starts for the Magpies. The southpaw has an earned run average of 2.63, and 24 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
"It is great to see Donlin having success in winter ball," said Canaries manager Steve Shirley. "During my career, I traveled the world to keep pitching in the winter, because the best way to improve yourself is to get on the mound and pitch."
Donlin has been a key part of the Canaries pitching staff for the past three seasons. In 2007, Sean went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA in 24 appearances.
Canaries third baseman Matt Imwalle and former Canaries outfielder Edgard Clemente are playing this winter in the Columbian Winter League. Imwalle is hitting .245 with three home runs and 19 RBI and 17 runs scored. Clemente was recently awarded Player of the Week honors. He is hitting .263 with three home runs, 19 RBI, 26 hits and 16 runs scored.
The Sioux Falls Canaries will open the 2008 American Association season on May 8 with a visit to the defending champion Fort Worth Cats.
