Default Big year nets Vlad Aaron nomination

ANAHEIM -- Who better than a Home Run Derby king to embody the power displayed in the batter's box by The Hammer himself?

AT&T Park, the site where Hank Aaron's all-time home run record fell to a Giant named Barry Bonds, also played host to Vladimir Guerrero's capture of the 2007 State Farm Home Run Derby crown.

And while that was only an exhibition, Guerrero's mastery at the plate, which goes beyond just power, has made him the Angels' nominee for the 2007 Hank Aaron Award.

Since 1999, Major League Baseball has recognized the best offensive performer from each league with the Hank Aaron Award, presented by Sharp. Past recipients include Bonds (three times), Alex Rodriguez (three times), Manny Ramirez (twice), David Ortiz, Andruw Jones, Albert Pujols, Todd Helton, Sammy Sosa and Carlos Delgado.

Last year's winners, selected during balloting in the regular season's final month on MLB.com, were New York's Derek Jeter and Philadelphia's Ryan Howard.
