Default Hunter won't take pay cut

Torii Hunter, who hit two important

Torii Hunter, who hit two important home runs for the Twins in two victories over the Chicago White Sox last weekend, is being paid $10.75 million this season and will make $12 million if the Twins pick up his option for next season.

Hunter wants to remain in Minnesota, but people close to him say there's absolutely no way that he'll accept a pay cut for 2007. The five-time Gold Glove center fielder, 31, is reluctant to discuss his contract status but did say he intends to play at least a half-dozen more years.

"I want to play in the new ballpark (in 2010), and there are some good players here, and we'll be good," Hunter said. "The contract is out of my hands, though; I can't do anything about it. But if I don't play here, I'll be playing somewhere next year."
