Default A's Payton delivers another KO blow

Losing three out of four baseball games, once upon a time, was how weeks unfurled for the Tigers during their Dark Ages stretch.

Now it classifies as news. What a bumpy stretch does not create in 2006 is a blown gasket by Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who was gratified and downright "proud" of his team after it lost to the Oakland A's, 2-1, in 10 innings Tuesday at McAfee Coliseum.

For the second straight game, Jay Payton did in the Tigers. This time, it came on an RBI single to right off Fernando Rodney that scored Bobby Crosby from second base.
