Default A-Rod Hits Two Run Walk Off in the 11th

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Another day, another round of late-inning heroics by the Yankees. Alex Rodriguez launched a two-run, walk-off home run in the 11th inning to propel the Bombers to a thrilling 6-4 victory over the Twins on Saturday afternoon in front of 45,455 at Yankee Stadium.

Rodriguez hit a pitch by Twins reliever Craig Breslow into the left-field seats and was mobbed by his teammates at home plate after rounding the bases. It was the first hit at the new Yankee Stadium for the star third baseman.

The exciting conclusion comes on the heels of Friday night's game, when the Yankees scored three in the ninth off Minnesota closer Joe Nathan and came away with a 5-4 win.

Mark Teixeira had his best day in a Yankees uniform, going 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, finishing a triple short of the cycle. Teixeira walked to lead off the 11th, setting up the dramatic moment by Rodriguez. Teixeira's single in the eighth off Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn drove in the tying run. Teixeira has now had hits in six consecutive at-bats.

New York's win was an appropriate ending to starter Joba Chamberlain's day, who solved his first-inning woes by retiring the first three Twins hitters in order. Chamberlain threw six innings, giving up two runs and striking out six while picking up a no-decision.

Chamberlain was matched admirably by Blackburn, who tossed 7 2/3 frames, allowing four runs.

Yankees reliever Alfredo Aceves pitched a 1-2-3 11th to pick up his first win of the season. Closer Mariano Rivera had his longest outing of the year, tossing two scoreless frames.

Great job today by both pitchers and both teams with their good offense. Luckily A-Rod came through for us.
