The Toronto Blue Jays have disabled OF Vernon Wells with a fractured left wrist and RHP Jeremy Accardo with right forearm tightness. Both players are on the 15-day disabled list. Toronto has recalled IF Joe Inglett from Syracuse (AAA) and selected the contract of RHP Armando Benitez from Syracuse. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Tracy Thorpe has been designated for assignment.

Wells, 29, suffered the injury diving for a ball during last evening’s game in Cleveland. This season the right handed hitter has appeared in 36 games and hit .281 with a team leading five home runs and 25 RBI. Wells is expected to miss six to eight weeks due to the injury.

Accardo has appeared in 16 games with a 0-3 record with four saves and a 6.57 ERA. The 26 year right hander has allowed 15 hits in 12 1/3 innings pitched with four walks and five strikeouts.

Benitez, 35, appeared in one game with Syracuse (AAA) pitching one shutout inning. In seven games with Dunedin of the Florida State League (A), the 6-4, 260lb. native of Ramon Santana Dominican Republic appeared in seven games posting a 1-0 record with a 3.86 ERA. He has a career record of 40-46 with a 3.11 ERA and 280 saves in 754 relief appearances.

Inglett, 29, has appeared in 13 games this season for Toronto and hit .303 with a double, a triple and 4 RBI. In 15 games with Syracuse (AAA) this season 5-10, 180lb left handed hitter has hit .407 with two doubles, two triples, one home run and six RBI.
Well with these call-ups, I still think we can compete. Inglett did a great job in his time with us earlier this year and Benetez adds some veteran presence into our bullpen and he did a great job during the spring and I was a little surprised he didn't make the squad.
