Tim Wakefield gave up two hits in eight shutout innings and the Boston Red Sox got back-to-back home runs from David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez to beat Detroit, 5-0, in the second installment of a four-game series. Wakefield (3-1) retired 17 straight hitters after allowing a two- out Carlos Guillen single in the first, leading the Sox to victory. Wakefield allowed three base runners, one of which reached on an error by second baseman Dustin Pedroia. He struck out six and walked none as Boston won its fifth straight, while sending the Tigers to their fifth consecutive defeat. Kevin Cash went 3-for-4 knocking in a run, getting the start for Jason Varitek at catcher. Kevin Youkilis slugged two doubles going 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Ramirez added two singles to go along with his seventh homer of the year. Nate Robertson (1-4) allowed four runs on 10 hits, walked twos and fanned four. The Tigers managed only three hits in the game with a double from Ivan Rodriguez and singles from Curtis Granderson and Guillen, never moving a runner past second base.

David Dellucci's three-run, pinch hit home run in the top of the eighth inning off Joba Chamberlain lifted Cleveland over New York, 5-3, in the opener of a three-game set at Yankee Stadium. Jhonny Peralta added a two-run homer for the Indians, who snapped a two-game skid. Fausto Carmona started on the hill and surrendered three runs on six hits and five walks, while fanning two in five innings. Rafael Perez (1-1) hurled two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Jason Giambi was 1- for-3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Yankees, who lost for the first time in four games. Hideki Matsui extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the first and finished 3-for-3 with a run scored. Andy Pettitte allowed two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The veteran lefty walked just one and struck out six but was let down by an unlikely culprit in Chamberlain (1-2). The second-year phenom gave up his first runs ever at Yankee Stadium and blew his first lead in the regular season.

Akinori Iwamura went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and one run scored, as the Tampa Bay Rays edged the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4, in the opener of a three-game set from the Rogers Centre. B.J. Upton had two hits and drove in a run for the Rays, who ended their three-game skid. Eric Hinske had a double and a solo home run, while Carl Crawford accounted for the other Tampa Bay RBI. Andy Sonnanstine (5-1) went six innings and gave up four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk, but still got the win. Dan Wheeler threw two innings and gave up just one walk, and Troy Percival got his seventh save of the year as he threw a perfect ninth. Lyle Overbay went 2-for-2 with two RBI for Toronto, which saw its five-game unbeaten streak halted. A.J. Burnett (3-3) got the loss after he was touched for five runs on nine hits in six frames on the hill. Burnett did fan 10 batters and only walk one.

Garret Anderson drove in all five runs to lead the Angels to a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Anderson, who homered in Monday's series-opening win, belted a three-run homer and added a pair of RBI singles for the Angels, who have captured six of their last eight games overall and will attempt to sweep this three-game set on Wednesday. Miguel Olivo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Kansas City, which has dropped four of its last six. Starter Nick Adenhart was solid for the Angels, but was removed with one out in the top of the fifth inning in favor of Darren Oliver (2-1), who fanned Mark Teahen and Olivo to escape a jam. Francisco Rodriguez worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save. Bannister (3-4) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.

Gavin Floyd took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, and Jermaine Dye homered and drove in a pair of runs to help the Chicago White Sox top Minnesota, 7-1, in the opener of a three-game set. Floyd (3-1) tossed 8 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run, walked three, struck out four, and give up one hit for the White Sox, who snapped a six-game losing streak. Five Chicago players had two hits, including Carlos Quentin, who also had two RBI. Joe Crede and Juan Uribe each collected a pair of hits and an RBI. Nick Blackburn (2-2) surrendered four runs -- three earned -- on six hits in six innings, and absorbed the loss as the Twins had a five-game win streak stopped. Joe Mauer broke up Floyd's no-hitter in the ninth with a double, while Jason Kubel had the lone Minnesota RBI.

Sidney Ponson threw seven brilliant innings to lead the Texas Rangers in a 10-1 rout of the Seattle Mariners in the second of a four-game set from Safeco Field. Ponson (2-0) got the win after he allowed just one run on seven hits in his time on the hill for the Rangers, who have won five of their last seven contests. Josh Hamilton, David Murphy and Michael Young all had three RBI. Ramon Vazquez was the only Ranger with two hits. Ichiro Suzuki went 1-for-2 with a double and had the only RBI for the Mariners, who have lost six of their last seven contests. Wladimir Balentien went 2-for-4 with a double and scored Seattle's only run. Miguel Batista (2-4) took the loss after he was touched for six runs on three hits and six walks in just 2 1/3 innings.
