Darrell Rasner tossed six solid innings in his season debut, and Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back homers in a six-run third inning as New York completed a three-game sweep of Seattle with an 8-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Rasner (1-0), who was called up from Triple- A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before the game, allowed just two runs on five hits for the Yankees, who moved one game above .500 on the year at 17-16. Ross Ohlendorf, Kyle Farnsworth and Mariano Rivera closed things out with an inning of scoreless relief apiece. Rivera has not given up an earned run in 13 innings pitched this season. Derek Jeter finished 4-of-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Adrian Beltre hit a two-run home run to account for the Mariners' only offense. Carlos Silva (3-1) was touched for eight runs on 11 hits in just three-plus innings of work en route to his first loss of the year for Seattle, which finished a six-game road swing at 1-5.

Roy Halladay tossed 7 1/3 strong innings and struck out a season-high seven batters, as the Toronto Blue Jays overcame a solid performance from the White Sox's Jose Contreras to clip Chicago, 4-3, in the third of a four-game set at Rogers Centre. Halladay (3-4), with the exception of the fourth inning, was flawless on the mound. The right-hander, who had tossed four straight complete games, allowed three runs on three hits in the aforementioned frame, but retired the White Sox in order in the other six innings before he was lifted with one out in the eighth. Matt Stairs doubled twice, drove in two runs and scored a pair of runs for the Blue Jays, who have reeled off four straight wins. Vernon Wells added an RBI single in the win. Contreras (2-3) gave up four runs on six hits and fanned five in a complete game effort for the White Sox, who have lost a season-high five in a row. Paul Konerko had an RBI double for Chicago, which was limited to four hits.

Miguel Olivo hit a solo home run and scored twice while Gil Meche pitched seven strong innings as the Kansas City Royals edged the Cleveland Indians, 2-0, sweeping the rain-shortened two-game series at Progressive Field. Meche (2-4) picked up the win, surrendering only four singles, while striking out four and not allowing a walk. Joakim Soria slammed the door in the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season. The Royals, who have won three of their last five, had five hits for the game. Aaron Laffey (0-2) was the hard luck loser for the Tribe. The left-hander tossed seven effective frames, giving up one unearned run and four hits, while fanning five and walking a pair. Laffey, who was making the start in place of the injured Jake Westbrook, fell to 2-2 lifetime versus the Indians. Ryan Garko had two hits for Cleveland, which has dropped two in a row and five of its last seven.

Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI as Boston tripped up Tampa, 7-3, in the finale of a three-game weekend set from Fenway Park. Jason Varitek and Coco Crisp added two hits each for the Red Sox, who swept the series and have won five of six. Dustin Pedroia and Manny Ramirez also drove in runs. Sox starter Jon Lester (2-2) earned the win, allowing one run and four hits over six full innings. Jonathan Papelbon recorded the final four outs of the game to notch his ninth save. Akinori Iwamura had two hits, an RBI and scored a run for the Rays, who have dropped three straight after a stretch of eight wins in nine games. Carlos Pena homered and Carl Crawford drove in a run in defeat. Scott Kazmir (0-1), who made his first start of the season, was tagged for six hits and four runs over four frames. The left-hander struck out five, walked three and needed 90 pitches to get through the outing.

Joe Mauer went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Minnesota Twins in a 7-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers to complete the three-game sweep. Nick Punto finished 1- for-3 with two RBI for the Twins, who have rattled off five victories in a row. Boof Bonser started for Minnesota, but was roughed up for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits in six frames and did not factor in the decision. Matt Guerrier (2-1) got the win as he gave up just one hit in two innings of work. Joe Nathan earned his 11th save of the year by yielding just one hit in the ninth. Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run and Edgar Renteria finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored for the Tigers, who were swept by the Twins on the heels of sweeping the Yankees in New York. Placido Polanco also had two hits in defeat. Kenny Rogers started and gave up five runs -- three earned -- on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Zach Miner (1-2) was charged with the loss after he gave up two runs on two hits and failing to record an out.

Torii Hunter hit a three-run homer and Gary Matthews Jr. added a solo shot as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim held on to edge the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5, in the finale of a three-game series. Robb Quinlan contributed with a two-run homer, while Casey Kotchman has two hits and a pair of runs scored for the Angels, who won two of the three games in the series. LA has won two straight and five of its last eight. Joe Saunders (6-0) earned the win despite allowing four runs on 12 hits over five innings. The left-hander fanned one without walking a batter. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 13th save of the campaign. Melvin Mora had three hits, including a solo home run, while Nick Markakis chipped in with a solo shot for Baltimore, which has dropped two in a row and four of its last five contests. Kevin Millar finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Steve Trachsel (1-4) lasted only three plus innings. The veteran righty gave up six runs on seven hits, including three home runs, while striking out two and walking a pair.

Jack Cust hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning to help the Oakland Athletics salvage the finale of a three-game set with a 3-1 win over the Texas Rangers. Frank Thomas went 2- for-3 with a double for the A's, who lost the first two games of this series. Bobby Crosby also had a double in the win. Greg Smith went six strong innings, allowing one run on three hits while fanning a career-high 10 batters and walking only two. Santiago Casilla (1-0) was awarded the win, as he pitched a perfect seventh. Casilla has thrown 16 1/3 consecutive innings of scoreless ball, the longest streak for an Oakland reliever since 1995. Huston Street earned his ninth save of the year as he gave up just one hit in the ninth inning. German Duran hit a solo home run in the third inning for the Rangers, who saw their season-high four-game win streak come to an end. Texas' 3-4-5 hitters, Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley and David Murphy, combined to go 0-for-12 with 10 strikeouts in the game. Scott Feldman (0-1) was charged with the loss after he gave up three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 frames on the hill.
