Dan Uggla finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored as the Florida Marlins crushed the San Diego Padres, 10-3, in the rubber match of a three- game set. Mike Jacobs also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Marlins, who have won just two of their last six contests. Matt Treanor ended with two RBI and Hanley Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Andrew Miller (2-2) got the win after he went six innings and gave up just two runs on four hits. Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run for San Diego, which has dropped 3-of-4. No other Padre had two hits, although Josh Bard ended with two RBI. Greg Maddux (2-3) was denied his bid for win No. 350, as he got shelled for five runs -- four earned -- on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Tim Redding was solid on the mound, as the Washington Nationals downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2, in the finale of a four-game set at Nationals Park. Redding (4-2) allowed one run on six hits and struck out five over 6 1/3 innings for the Nationals, who closed out an 11-game homestand with a record of 8-3. Cristian Guzman and Austin Kearns each had two hits and scored a run, with Kearns driving in a run. Rob Mackowiak went 2-for-3, while Aaron Boone belted a solo home run. Ian Snell (2-2) was charged with four runs on 10 hits in six-plus innings for the Pirates, who have dropped two straight and three of their last four contests overall. Adam LaRoche homered, doubled and knocked in both runs, while Xavier Nady was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Eugenio Velez's error on Geoff Jenkins' grounder in the bottom of the ninth allowed Ryan Howard to score and lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 5-4 win over San Francisco. After Howard and Pat Burrell worked two-out walks off of Keiichi Yabu, Jenkins tapped a grounder to the right side. Velez ranged to his left, but didn't get his glove all the way down to the grass as the ball rolled through. The throw from the outfield wasn't in time and off-target, as Howard slid in for the winning run. Burrell finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs batted in, and two walks, while Carlos Ruiz homered and Shane Victorino went 2-for-5 with a double for the Phillies, who have won three of four. Cole Hamels allowed four runs on seven hits over a six-inning start, while Brad Lidge (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth. Rich Aurilia went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI for the Giants, who made three errors en route to losing the rubber match of this three-game set. San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum allowed four runs on six hits in six innings, but none were earned. The Giants staff was credited with just one earned run, and Yabu (2-2) took the loss.

Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer and knocked in five and Mark Kotsay added a solo shot and three runs batted in as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 14-7, sweeping the three-game series at Turner Field. Jones finished 3-for-6, while Kotsay was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Braves, who have won three straight after dropping the previous four games. Kelly Johnson had a solid game for Atlanta, chipping in with a career- high four hits, including three doubles. He also drove in two and scored a pair. Tom Glavine started, but was ineffective through 4 2/3 innings. The veteran lefty allowed six runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking five. Adam Dunn had two hits with a pair of RBI, while Paul Bako had two hits, including a homer for the Reds, who have lost five straight. Bronson Arroyo (1-4) was tagged with the loss. The right-hander struggled mightily, giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking a batter over 1 1/3 innings.

Hunter Pence's home run in the bottom of the 12th inning gave Houston a comeback 8-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, as the Astros swept the three-game set from Minute Maid Park. Lance Berkman went 4- for-5 with four runs batted in to pace Houston, which has also won four of five. Kazuo Matsui finished 2-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored in the win. Starter Chris Sampson was roughed up in 3 1/3 innings for the Astros, as he surrendered five runs on nine hits and a pair of walks, with three strikeouts. But after Dave Borkowski gave up one run in 1 2/3 frames, the Houston bullpen shut out the Brewers for the next seven innings. Tim Byrdak (1-0) walked three batters, but managed to pitch a scoreless 12th for the win. Mike Cameron slugged a pair of homers and finished with four RBI for Milwaukee, which has lost four of five. Jason Kendall added a pair of doubles, and Prince Fielder and Corey Hart each contributed a pair of hits. Ben Sheets gave up four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, and was in line for the win until Eric Gagne blew his fifth save of the season in the ninth by giving up three walks, two hits and two runs. Mitch Stetter (1-1) took the loss, as he replaced an effective Salomon Torres, who pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Aaron Cook was dominant on the mound and Matt Holliday knocked in two runs, as the Colorado Rockies avoided a sweep with 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. Cook (5-1) allowed two runs on nine hits in 7 2/3 innings for Colorado, which won for only the second time in its last nine outings. Taylor Buchholz hurled 1 1/3 scoreless frames to earn his first save of the season. Scott Podsednik was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in, while Omar Quintanilla provided an RBI double and scored two runs. Derek Lowe (2-2) surrendered five runs on six hits over five innings for the Dodgers, who saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end. Andre Ethier hit a solo home run, while Juan Pierre and Blake DeWitt each had two hits.

Jose Reyes drove in a pair of runs and New York scored three times in the ninth to top Arizona, 5-2, in the final installment of three from Chase Field. Starter Johan Santana went six innings, allowing six hits and one run with eight strikeouts and four walks. Mark Reynolds and Chris Snyder each collected two hits and knocked in a run for the D-Backs, who have alternated losses and wins in their last five games. Chad Qualls (0-2) was charged in the loss with three hits and three runs -- one earned -- in the fateful ninth inning. Dan Haren turned in a solid start for Arizona, giving up two runs on just three hits while fanning seven in six innings.

Albert Pujols' lone hit of the night was a two-run double that broke up a tie game in the fourth, and the St. Louis Cardinals held on for a 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs in the rubber match of a three-game set between the bitter division rivals. Todd Wellemeyer (3-1) got the win against the club that drafted him, holding the Cubs to three hits and two runs in five innings, with four strikeouts and four walks. Four St. Louis relievers combined to hold the hot Cubs lineup to two hits and one run over the final four frames, as the Cardinals maintained their hold on first place in the NL Central. Adam Kennedy went 2-for-2, drove in two runs and scored for the Cardinals, who have won four of five. Jason Marquis (1-2) gave up five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, fanning four but walking five to take the loss. Reed Johnson had an RBI double for the Cubs, who managed only five hits as they fell for the seventh time in 10 games.
