Matt Kemp singled home the go-ahead run for his only hit of the day and scored an insurance run on a heads-up baserunning play in the ninth to help the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Florida Marlins and a sweep of the three-game series at Dolphin Stadium. Juan Pierre was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and the Los Angeles bullpen tossed two scoreless innings to help extend the Dodgers' winning streak to six, the longest in the majors. Joe Beimel (3-0) picked up his second win of the series in relief and Takashi Saito closed the door in the ninth for his fourth save of the season. Hideki Kuroda tossed an effective seven innings for the Dodgers, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Cody Ross belted a two-run homer for the Marlins, who have lost a season-high three straight games.

Ryan Braun went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, and his two-run double in the ninth put the Brewers on top as Milwaukee rallied to down the Cubs, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Braun's double capped a three-run ninth for the Brewers off of Kerry Wood (2-1), who let up three runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in the ninth, taking his third blown save as well as his first loss of the season. Jason Kendall went 2-for-4 with a run batted in and scored for the Brewers, who have won three of five. Brian Shouse (2-0) earned the win for getting the last out of the eighth, and Eric Gagne pitched the scoreless ninth for his ninth save of the season. Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo gave up three runs on nine hits in six innings, and stayed in the game despite twisting his right knee on a play in the fifth. Carlos Zambrano held the Brewers to one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, fanning three and walking two, and belted a solo home run. Kosuke Fukudome went 4-for-4 for the Cubs, who have dropped three of four.

Ryan Howard's solo homer in the eighth inning was the difference, as the Philadelphia Phillies edged the San Diego Padres, 3-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set. Howard added an RBI double and scored twice for the Phillies, who have won eight of 11 and moved into first place in the National League East, a half-game ahead of the Mets and Marlins. Tom Gordon (3-2) pitched the scoreless eighth for the win, and Brad Lidge nailed down his seventh save with a perfect ninth. Adrian Gonzalez's two run home run in the first provided the offense for the Padres, who have dropped three of four and eight of 10. Joe Thatcher (0-3) took the loss for allowing Howard's homer, the only hit he gave up in 1 1/3 innings of work. The pitching matchup featured two starters tossing against their former clubs, and both took no-decisions. Adam Eaton pitched for the Padres from 2000-2005, while Randy Wolf made his first start in Philadelphia since leaving after the 2006 season.

Austin Kearns' single to right scored Cristian Guzman with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth frame, leading Washington to a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh in the initial contest of a four-game set at Nationals Park. The suddenly red-hot Nationals have won four in a row, six of seven and seven of nine. Luis Ayala (1-1) pitched a flawless frame for the victory and Jon Rauch closed the door for his sixth save. Kearns finished 2-for-4 and Wil Nieves drove in a pair of runs for the Nationals, who improved to 6-2 on their 11-game homestand. John Grabow (1-1) was saddled with the loss for the Pirates, who have dropped five of their last seven games. Freddy Sanchez and Ryan Doumit homered.
