Justin Morneau's run-scoring double proved to be the difference as Minnesota edged Chicago, 4-3, to complete a sweep of a brief two-game set at the Metrodome. Nathan earned his ninth save with a scoreless ninth. Carlos Quentin homered for the White Sox, who have dropped three of their past five. Nick Swisher and Jim Thome added an RBI apiece. Nick Masset, making just his second career start, allowed three runs on five hits in four innings. Ehren Wassermann (0-1) lost it, giving up a run in just one- third of an inning.
Final Score: Boston 2, Toronto 1

David Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a homer, while Manny Ramirez was 1-for-3 and scored the winning run for Boston, which has won the first two games of this series by a combined 3-1 score. Jonathan Papelbon (2-0) got the decision after throwing a scoreless top of the ninth for the Red Sox. Dustin McGowan threw 7 1/3 solid innings for the Blue Jays, who have lost eight of nine. He surrendered just one run on four hits and a walk, while fanning five. Scott Downs (0-1) got two outs in the ninth, but gave up Varitek's single and took the loss.
Final Score: Cleveland 8, Seattle 3
Cliff Lee threw six-plus innings to earn his fifth win without a loss this season, as the Indians beat the Seattle Mariners, 8-3, in the middle contest of a three-game series. Lee (5-0) actually saw his season ERA rise from 0.28 to 0.96, still best in the majors, by allowing eight hits and three runs. The lefty struck out three without allowing a walk and improved to 6-1 lifetime versus the Mariners. He had a 27 inning scoreless streak snapped on Wladimir Balentien's three-run homer. Lee is the first Cleveland pitcher to win his first five starts since Greg Swindell captured his opening six in 1988. Franklin Gutierrez knocked in three runs and Grady Sizemore homered for the Indians, who snapped a three-game skid, but won for the sixth time in nine games. Balentien, who was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, had two hits in his regular season debut with the Mariners. Jarrod Washburn (1-4) was charged with six hits and six runs -- five earned -- in 4 1/3 innings to suffer the defeat, as the Mariners lost for the fifth time in seven games. Washburn also walked two and struck out seven.
Final Score: Detroit 6, New York 2
Placido Polanco hit a pair of solo home runs to lead the Detroit Tigers past the injury-laden New York Yankees, 6-2, in the second installment of a three-game series. New York's bullpen was solid, allowing three hits and a run in three innings of work.
Final Score: Tampa Bay 8, Baltimore 1
Andy Sonnanstine's dominant performance on the hill was complemented by Tampa Bay's five-run seventh, as the Rays came away with an 8-1 triumph over Baltimore in the second meeting of a three-game series at Camden Yards. Sonnanstine (4-1) threw only 102 pitches -- 66 for strikes -- in his eight-inning start, allowing a lone run on six hits and two walks while fanning five, as Tampa Bay got back in the win column after dropping the series opener on Tuesday. Eric Hinske, who walked three times in the contest, laced a two-run homer, while Carlos Pena and Dioner Navarro each drove in two runs in the game-altering seventh for the Rays, who have won seven of their last eight. Matt Albers' (2-1) second start of the season was efficient, but the first-year Oriole took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits through six innings. Brian Roberts was 2- for-3 at the plate with a walk and the lone Orioles RBI, as Baltimore has fallen in three of four.

Brian Bannister (3-3) absorbed the loss after he was rocked for seven runs on seven hits in just three innings of work.
Final Score: LA Angels 6, Oakland 1
Casey Kotchman went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim topped the Oakland Athletics, 6-1, in the third of a four-game set at Angels Stadium. Torii Hunter, Chone Figgins and Jeff Mathis each drove in a run for Los Angeles, while Erick Aybar scored twice. Ervin Santana (5-0) allowed an unearned run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win.
