Final Score: Cleveland 6, New York 4
Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and finished with four runs batted in to lead the Cleveland Indians past the New York Yankees, 6-4. The game was New York's first time back in Cleveland since Game 2 of last year's ALDS when a swarm of Lake Erie bugs helped derail its playoff run. Jamey Carroll ended 2-for-5 with a run scored and one driven in for Cleveland, which has rattled off four wins in a row. Franklin Gutierrez accounted for the other run with a solo home run. Paul Byrd (1-2) was given the win as he hurled 5 2/3 innings, yielding four runs on six hits. Rafael Betancourt earned his second save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Jason Giambi hit two home runs, good for three RBI, for the Yankees, who have dropped their last two contests. Hideki Matsui also had a solo homer. Andy Pettitte (3-2) was dealt the loss after he was roughed up for five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in five frames on the hill. The Yankees depleted bullpen was solid, surrendering only a run and a hit in three innings of work. The reigning American League MVP, Alex Rodriguez, was in New York's lineup for the first time since last Sunday, when he strained his quadriceps in Baltimore. He went 0-for-4 and left one runner stranded.
Final Score: LA Angels 4, Detroit 3
Ervin Santana tossed 6 1/3 solid innings and Casey Kotchman added a two-run single that knocked in the winning run, as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim clipped the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set at Comerica Park. Santana (4-0) limited the Tigers' potent offense to three runs on six hits and struck out four, as the Angels won their third straight game. Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in two runs, while Chone Figgins and Torii Hunter each recorded a double. Nate Robertson (0-3) surrendered four runs on six hits over seven innings for Detroit, which saw its four-game winning streak come to an end. The Tigers outscored their opponents 42-11 over that span. Placido Polanco went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Curtis Granderson belted a solo home run.
Final Score: Tampa Bay 5, Boston 4 (11 innings)
Nathan Haynes drove in the game-winner in the 11th inning to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox to open a three-game set at Tropicana Field. In the 11th, Carl Crawford led off with a single and then stole second. After B.J. Upton worked a walk, Haynes punched a single into right field and Crawford easily beat the throw to the plate for the win. Crawford went 3-for-6 with a pair of triples, three runs scored and one driven in for the Rays, who are on a four-game winning streak. Scott Dohmann (1-0) got the win for getting the final two outs of the 11th inning. Matt Garza started on the mound and gave up three runs on five hits in five innings. Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Julio Lugo drove in a pair of runs for the Red Sox, who have dropped their last three. Mike Timlin (2-2) got the loss while Tim Wakefield was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on six hits with five walks in six innings in the start.
Final Score: Texas 6, Minnesota 5 (10 innings)
David Murphy drove in the winning run in the 10th inning as the Texas Rangers downed the Minnesota Twins, 6-5, in the opener of a three-game set at Rangers Ballpark. Juan Rincon (2-1) started on the mound in the 10th and got Josh Hamilton to ground out, but then served up a double to Hank Blalock, who was then replaced on the base paths by German Duran due to an apparent hamstring injury. Jason Botts then worked a walk, but Frank Catalanotto struck out. Murphy, though, punched a single to left to score Duran and end the game. Hamilton finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored while Ian Kinsler added two hits for the Rangers, who snapped a seven-game losing streak. Kevin Millwood started on the mound for Texas and was charged with five runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts in six innings of work. Joaquin Benoit (2-1) got the win for throwing a scoreless 10th inning. Justin Morneau hit a grand slam and drove in five runs for the Twins, who have dropped their last three games. Nick Blackburn started on the mound and was charged with five runs on 11 hits in six innings of action.

Ross Gload had a double, an RBI and scored twice as the Royals snapped a seven-game losing streak. Alberto Callaspo and Billy Butler each knocked in a run in the win. Leo Nunez (2-0) earned the win despite allowing three runs on three hits in an innings of relief, while starter Zack Greinke didn't factor in the decision despite holding the Jays to one run on five hits over seven innings. Scott Rolen, playing in his first game of the year after missing the first 23 with a fractured right middle finger, had a two-run double for the Blue Jays, who dropped their fifth straight. Lyle Overbay belted a solo homer, while Alex Rios went 2-for-4 and scored a run. A.J. Emil Brown and Ryan Sweeney each added an RBI for the A's, who snapped a six-game losing streak to Seattle and won for the third straight time and recorded their sixth win in seven tries overall. Dana Eveland (3-1) got the win as he went 5 1/3 frames giving up three runs on six hits, while fanning three. Huston Street earned his seventh save of the season by walking one and not allowing a hit in the ninth. Jose Lopez went 4-for-5 with a run scored for the Mariners, who have lost three in a row.
