Derrek Lee and Daryle Ward each belted a two- run home run as the Chicago Cubs demolished the Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set at Wrigley Field. Mark DeRosa and Ronny Cedeno drove in two runs apiece for the Cubs, who won for the fifth time in six games. Ryan Theriot went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, while Geovany Soto was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring double as the Cubs pounded out 12 hits and drew 10 walks off Pittsburgh pitching. Jason Marquis (1-0) earned the win with six solid innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven. Marquis also helped himself out at the plate with an RBI double. Tom Gorzelanny (1-2) was shelled for seven runs on six hits over just 2 2/3 innings, while Tyler Yates allowed four runs on one hit and four walks in two- thirds of an inning in relief. Nate McLouth doubled and scored for the Pirates, who dropped their fourth straight.

Bill Hall's two-run double in the 10th inning sent Milwaukee past Cincinnati, 5-3, in the middle contest of three at Great American Ball Park. Hall drove in three runs for the Brewers, who have won three in a row, including a pair in extra innings. Corey Hart homered and Gabe Gross knocked in the other run. Guillermo Mota (1-0) hurled two scoreless innings for the victory in relief of starter Jeff Suppan. Suppan allowed three hits and two runs over 6 2/3 innings, while Eric Gagne picked up his sixth save with a scoreless 10th. Joey Votto hit a two-run shot and Ken Griffey, Jr. also picked up an RBI for the Reds, who have dropped five of six. David Weathers (0-2) absorbed the loss after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Starter Johnny Cueto was charged with five hits and three runs -- two earned -- over seven full frames.

Tim Lincecum and three San Francisco relievers combined for a seven-hit shutout, and the Giants took the middle installment of a three-game weekend set, 3-0, over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Less than 24 hours after St. Louis pounded San Francisco pitching for 11 runs on 13 hits, Lincecum (3-0) struck out five and allowed just six hits over seven innings. Jack Taschner and Tyler Walker combined for a scoreless eighth, while Brian Wilson earned his fifth save in tossing the ninth. Aaron Rowand led the Giants offense, going 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in on the day, while Jose Castillo was 2-for-4 with an RBI double as San Francisco snapped a three-game losing streak. Joel Pineiro (0-2) was the tough-luck loser, allowing three runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. Skip Schumaker and Adam Kennedy had a pair of hits each to lead a Cardinals offense that mustered seven hits, but left seven on base.

Jose Reyes' two-run seventh-inning home run was the difference, as the New York Mets topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-2, in the second installment of a three-game weekend set from Citizens Bank Park. David Wright knocked in the other two runs for the Mets, winners in five consecutive games. Oliver Perez (2-0) held the Phillies scoreless over 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven to notch the win for New York, despite walking five. Billy Wagner earned his fourth save with a scoreless final inning. Chase Utley homered and Carlos Ruiz knocked in a run for the Phillies, who have dropped three of four. Jamie Moyer (1-1) was charged with the loss, after allowing seven hits and two runs in six full frames. His loss was compounded by the announcement of the death of Philadelphia native and former teammate John Marzano earlier Saturday at age 45.

Mark Teixeira's two-run single highlighted a four-run fifth inning, and the Atlanta Braves went on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-1, in the middle test of a three-game series at Turner Field. Teixeira finished 2-for-4, while also doubling and scoring a run, and Mark Kotsay had a pair of hits and knocked in a run for the Braves, who have won three straight after losing the previous three. The club got a solid outing from Chuck James (1-1), who tossed five innings of one-run, four-hit ball. Jorge Campillo followed with two scoreless frames, Blaine Boyer worked the eighth and Manny Acosta picked up his first major league save, allowing one hit in the ninth. The loss went to Chad Billingsley (0-3), who allowed four runs on six hits over five innings of work for the Dodgers. He walked five but fanned nine, tying a career high. Andruw Jones accounted for the lone Dodgers' run with a solo homer against his former team. Los Angeles has now dropped four of its last six games.

Aaron Cook tossed seven strong innings and also helped himself with an RBI single as Colorado edged Houston, 3-2, in the middle test of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. Cook (2-1) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits while walking a batter and fanning four for the Rockies, who have won four straight. Brian Fuentes worked the eighth and Manny Corpas tossed a perfect ninth to record his fourth save. Brad Hawpe had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while Garrett Atkins went 2- for-4 with a run scored for Colorado. Todd Helton added three hits. Oscar Villarreal (0-3) took the loss for the Astros, allowing one run on two hits over two innings in relief of starter Wandy Rodriguez, who departed after four innings with a sore left groin. J.R. Towles hit a solo homer for Houston, which has dropped four of five.

Wes Helms' RBI single in the Marlins' final at- bat gave Florida a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals in the second contest of a three-game set at Dolphin Stadium. Dan Uggla worked out of an 0-2 count to draw a walk to lead off the home ninth, and moved to second on a groundout to second base. After Josh Willingham was intentionally walked, Helms came through with a liner up the middle off of Saul Rivera (1-1), and center fielder Lastings Milledge couldn't throw out Uggla at the plate. Marlins starter Burke Badenhop pitched only three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks. Renyel Pinto pitched three scoreless innings in relief, and Mike Jacobs and Jorge Cantu each tallied three hits to snap Florida's two-game slide. Kevin Gregg (2-0) got the win despite allowing two runs -- both unearned -- in the top of the ninth. Shawn Hill lasted five innings and was credited for four runs on eight hits and no walks for Washington, which has lost 13 of its last 15 games. Felipe Lopez had two hits in the loss.

Edgar Gonzalez tossed six strong innings and Arizona's offense exploded for nine runs over the final three frames, as the Diamondbacks downed the San Diego Padres, 10-3, in the second test of a three- game series at Chase Field. Gonzalez gave up three runs on four hits, with four walks and three strikeouts in a no decision for Arizona, which has reeled off four straight wins. Juan Cruz (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh to record the win. Justin Upton finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Eric Byrnes had one hit -- a two-run double -- to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Chris Young allowed two runs on three hits, with four strikeouts and three walks in a no decision for the Padres, who have dropped four in a row. Joe Thatcher (0-2) surrendered two runs on three hits in one inning of relief. Kevin Cameron was roughed up for six runs -- one earned -- on three hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.
