April 17, 2008 - The Springfield Cardinals scored a franchise-record 20 runs, on their way to a 20-5 blowout of the Tulsa Drillers on Thursday night at Hammons Field. The win for Springfield is their third straight, pulling them to within just one game of first place Tulsa in the North Division.
Three different Springfield players had four hits and Clayton Mortensen fired six shut-out innings for his first career Double-A win.
Springfield got a run in the first on an Allen Craig sac fly, making it 1-0 against Tulsa starter Ching-Lung Lo. Lo (0-3) would not make it out of the second inning, as Springfield scored a total of ten runs in the frame, tying a franchise-record. Eight of the ten second-inning runs would be charged against Lo. Mark Hamilton’s three-run homer to left highlighted the ten-run frame and ended Lo’s night just four outs into the game.
